Influences

Just surfing the net and thinking about how I want our company image to stay clean and simple. That goes for all that we create as well. Not simple as in lazy, but the beautiful clean design that we strive for. Too many designers are over-thinking and over crowding what might have been the perfect design.

I ran into this article and wondered what in my childhood influenced me in how I design now. Think about it. Can you pin point any events or day to day life that have an influence in your design style.

“Steve Jobs’ interest in design began with his love for his childhood home….developers such as Joseph Eichler and his imitators built houses that featured floor-to-ceiling glass walls, open floor plans, exposed post-and-beam construction, concrete slab floors and lots of sliding glass doors. His houses were smart and cheap and good. They brought clean design and simple taste to lower-income people.”
“I love it when you can bring really great design and simple capability to something that doesn’t cost much,” he said as he pointed out the clean elegance of the Eichlers. “It was the original vision for Apple. That’s what we tried to do with the first Mac. That’s what we did with the iPod.”

It is long but a great read.
